** The Grandprix 2 1996 Carset v3.1 **
-> Please read this carefully! <-
- About the Carset: -------------------------------------------------
The Grandprix 2 1996 Carset 3.1 will update the ultimate formula one
simulator Grandprix 2 from Microprose fully to the 1996 season.
It contains new cars, a performance patch, a pit boxes patch,
new names and new cockpit colors.
To install the carset read the installation section below.
NOTE: This carset only works with the English version of GP2.
If you are using another version and don't want to switch to
another language, download carset 2.0.
- About the cars: ---------------------------------------------------
The cars are all painted equally to the real formula one cars
of the 1996 season.
Because more cars have to be used in the game then are driving
in the real 1996 season, two new cars of the 1997 season
(Dome & Stewart), and a fictious car (Alfa) have been added.
The Stewart Team however, will not be present in the game.
After the installation, there will only remain 13 teams driving
instead of the normal 14.
We've done this to come as close to the real thing as possible.
So if you want to add your own personal car, don't put it on top
of the Stewart team (PACIFIC.JAM), otherwise you will not see
your car.
- Installation ------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT: This carset will change your original GP2.EXE!
Make sure you have a backup of this file in case
something goes wrong.
If you don't want the changes being made, download
carset 2.0.
The installation file will create the new cars on your system
and will patch GP2.EXE to update the performance of the cars
and to update the order of the pit boxes to the real 1996 season.
NOTE for VGA-players: To make sure the colors of the front wings
match with the colors of the cars, we had to change the original
cockpit with a new one.
Your original cockpit is saved to the file CPIT_ORG.PCX and is moved
to the GP2\GPSAVES\96CARSET directory.
This is what you have to do to install the files:
1. Make a backup of the .JAM files and GP2.EXE if you want to reset
the game later.
2. Unzip this file to the directory: GP2\GAMEJAMS
Don't unzip it to another directory!
Or if you have already unzipped it, copy *all* files
to this directory.
3. Now go to the GP2\GAMEJAMS directory and run
the batch file: 96.BAT
That's all.
- Loading the names, numbers and cockpit colors ---------------------
After you have installed the new cars you have to load the names,
numbers and new cockpit colors yourself within the game.
This can simply be done by loading a single race!
1. Start Grandprix 2
2. Go to the "Main Menu".
3. Select "Load Game or Hotlap Replay"
4. The game you have to load is installed in the directory:
GP2\GPSAVES\96CARSET
Go to this directory.
5. Select the file "96CS31.RAA".
6. After you have loaded the game, simply exit the race.
7. Exit GP2 with saving the changes.
The names are also stored in a names file which is installed
in the GP2\GPSAVES\96CARSET directory.
NOTE: When you load a previous saved game, the names, numbers
and cockpit colors are reset to their original values.
Remember this!
- Known problems: ---------------------------------------------------
Because of a bug in the GP2 Computer cars performance editor,
it is not possible to skip a number. So we had to add number
13. Therefore the actual car numbers above car number 12
will not correspond with the numbers *on* the car.
- Additional files: -------------------------------------------------
There are several extra files included in the zip with which
you can change some things if you like:
96CS31F.CCP
This is a faster version of the performance patch.
Using this one will make the other cars faster.
96RAND.CCP
This patch is a more randomized version.
96RANDF.CCP
A faster version of the randomized one.
Read GP2CCPE.TXT for information on how to use the editor.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
That's all!
